Ocean Sciences Meeting. Special Session OS080: Harmful Algal Blooms: From Research to Management Applications
February 20-24, 2006
Honolulu, Hawaii
The Program Managers of the NOAA and Environmental Protection Agency Ecology and Oceanography of Harmful Algal Bloom (ECOHAB) Program are convening a special session on management applications of harmful algal bloom (HAB) research at an upcoming international meeting. The 2006 Ocean Sciences Meeting, a joint meeting of three professional societies - the American Society of Limnology and Oceanography (ASLO), The Oceanography Society (TOS), and the American Geophysical Union (AGU) - will be held in Honolulu, Hawaii from February 20-24, 2006. The special session will provide current scientific research aimed at developing reliable approaches to forecast HAB development, persistence, and toxicity. Session presentations will describe the scientific underpinnings of such approaches and review the management possibilities in light of the issues and limitations associated with the technology.
